Smddd heheh Jayson Jackson is one of the main characters in Netflix's Grand Army. He is portrayed by Maliq Johnson.
History[]
Biography[]
Jayson is from Spanish Harlem. He is a musical prodigy and plays the saxophone. He loves music and bonds over it with his best friend, Owen Williams.
Throughout the Series[]
Season 1[]
At the beginning of the season, Jay was often seen goofing around with Owen, his best friend. The day the bomb went off, they were in the hallways goofing around. Owen grabbed their friend, Dom's, wallet and played around with it, but accidentally dropped down a staircase. A teacher saw and as a result, the two of them were disciplined.
While waiting for the disciplinary hearing, Jay and Owen tried to get Dom's money back. They played music together in the subways of New York to raise $200 to give it back to her. They asked for leniency at their disciplinary hearing, but the school decided to give Jay a one week suspension, but the length of Owen's suspension was undetermined.
Later in the season, there was another disciplinary hearing (attended by Owen, his parents, Jayson, his parents, and Dom) which resulted in Owen getting a 60-day suspension.
Owen felt betrayed by Jay because he felt as if Jay gave the school board "exactly what they needed" so suspend him longer. This separated Jay and Owen- Jay continually tried to reach out to Owen and go and see him, to no avail. Owen was frustrated and mad and took it out on Jay.
At school, Jay started to become more involved in the Black Student Union and helped organize a sit-in protesting racism at the school.
At the end of the season, Owen was awarded a top seat at a musical performance but was unable to take it due to his suspension. Jay was the alternate and took the spot instead, although he felt a lot of guilt about this. On stage the night of the performance, Jay decided not to play and instead put black tape over his mouth in protest.

Jay has short, curly, and black hair. He is an African American high school sophomore from Spanish Harlem (According to Grand Army)

Jay is a fun, easy going guy who loves music. He is very friendly, smart, loyal and gets along with everyone.
