Throughout the Series[]

Season 1[]

In the beginning of Season 1, Joey is one of the most popular girls at school. She is a major contender for dance team captain, she has a group of close friends who the other students seem to idolize, and she's well respected around school. Joey spends all of her time with her best friend, Anna, and she has a very flirtatious relationship with Anna's brother, Tim.

Anna asks Joey not to pursue Tim, so Joey decides to respect that and ignores her feelings for him, knowing she might hurt him down the road. Joey frequently hangs out with Tim and his two best friends, George and Luke.

One night, the four of them went to the movies. They decided to get drunk in the theater. In an effort to push Tim away, Joey purposely flirts with George and Luke in front of him, declaring that she can do whatever she wants and that he doesn't get a say in her life. After they left the movies, the four got into a cab, completely drunk. Joey sat on George's lap and George and Luke started to kiss Joey. She was very drunk and not in control. The boys pinned her back in her seat and fingered her against her will. Joey shed several tears and tried to look to Tim for help, but Tim just sat in stunned silence.

That incident changed everything for Joey. She became depressed at school, unable to focus, unable to dance. Her friends were confused about what was going on with her. She used drugs to try to get through but ultimately she had a breakdown at home with her mom, admitting that she was a victim of sexual assault and that the guys she thought were her best friends had raped her.

Her mom supports her and brings her to the hospital, to undergo a rape kit. She wants to press charges. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough evidence to convict Luke and George and Joey is devastated. She tries to talk to them to get them to at least admit their wrongdoing, but they both claim it was all fun and games and that they were drunk. Joey looks to Tim for support but he doesn't give it at the time.

Joey tries to move forward, changing schools and trying to dance again. At the end of the season, she seems to have found a bit of happiness in a dance class, signaling that she might be able to take a step forward after this trauma in her life.

Physical Appearance[]

Joey has light brown curly hair (suspected she may have a trichotillomania), light blue eyes. She often wears crop tops with baggy pants and a baggy jacket paired with a beanie.
